The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 17 contest against the Houston Texans on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Linebacker
Dre Greenlaw returned to practice. He has been inactive for the past four games. Greenlaw has appeared in just two games (Week 1, 12) this season.
Of course, the big storyline is at quarterback. Starter
Jimmy Garoppolo missed his third consecutive practice of the week, leaving rookie
Trey Lance to once again lead the offense in practice. Garoppolo is dealing with a thumb injury, and may have to miss Sunday's game.
Below are Thursday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Texans, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo hoping for a 'quick resolution' once healthy, per report
There has been some chatter that the San Francisco 49ers might be willing to hold onto Jimmy Garoppolo if they can't find a trade partner for the veteran quarterback or if an interested team tries to lowball the Niners. San Francisco had hoped to trade Garoppolo in March. The quarterback undergoing shoulder surgery halted all trade talks. Then the number of quarterback-needy teams greatly diminished.
49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have repeatedly indicated that they expect Garoppolo to be healthy enough to throw again by early July. We're almost to that point.
On Saturday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Garoppolo's

Earlier this week, CBS Sports compiled a list of every NFL team's most questionable offseason move, and pointed to the Jimmy Garoppolo saga for the San Francisco 49ers, which still remains unanswered as mandatory minicamp has concluded.
While there were several potential choices, such as San Francisco's contract negotiations with Deebo Samuel that ultimately resulted in a trade request by the fourth-year receiver, CBS Sports's Jordan Dajani believed that the outcome of the Garoppolo situation was the most questionable move.

After being subject to a number of trade rumors this offseason, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo remains a member of the organization, although the franchise has made it clear that they've attempted to move on from the veteran signal-caller.
One of the reasons that San Francisco could be looking to move on is due to Garoppolo's inability to consistently complete deep passes, which has hindered the 49ers on several occasions, most notably during the 49ers' Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2019 NFL season.

Fowler: 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo's shoulder recovery remains on schedule
San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have said they expect their veteran quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, to be healthy enough to begin throwing again in early July. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, that timeline remains intact.
