49ers place Mike McGlinchey on injured reserve, announce other roster moves

Nov 10, 2021 at 1:39 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers announced the following roster moves.

  • RT Mike McGlinchey has been placed on injured reserve.
  • OL Colton McKivitz has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.
  • LB Christian Elliss has been released from the practice squad.

On Sunday, McGlinchey suffered a torn quad in the team's 31-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and will undergo season-ending surgery.

"You guys saw [Tom] Compton there," head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday when asked about the options to replace McGlinchey. "You guys have seen Jaylon Moore play. We'll see how we rep it this week, but probably won't announce that either until Sunday or unless someone's confirmed and I feel better on Wednesday or Thursday."

Shanahan didn't eliminate the possibility of using Daniel Brunskill. However, either Compton or Moore is more likely to replace McGlinchey.

"[Brunskill is] definitely an option, so you've got a number of options in that way, so we can see with that," Shanahan said. "But the job will probably go to those other guys."

The 25-year-old has caught 36 passes for 360 yards with a touchdown through his first two NFL seasons. The Cardinals waived him on August 30, 2021. The Philadelphia Eagles signed Johnson to their practice squad on September 2, 2021. He appeared in their Wild Card playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on January 16, a 31-15 loss. Johnson played two offensive snaps and 16 special teams snaps in the postseason appearance. The 49ers worked

49ers' Deebo Samuel reveals why he doesn't study other receivers

The San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver and sometimes running back, Deebo Samuel, spoke with reporters after Friday's practice before traveling to Southern California for Sunday's NFC Championship Game matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Samuel has noted in the past that he doesn't spend a whole lot of time studying other NFL wideouts. On Friday, he was asked why that is. "There's not another receiver in this league that plays like me and do the things that I do," Samuel answered. "So I don't see the need to watch anybody that don't do the things that I do." Samuel isn't exaggerating. It would be difficult to find another NFL receiver who is as versatile of an offensive weapon as Samuel. The third-year player had 77 receptions, 59 rushing attempts, and even

San Francisco still leads 23-17 at the time of this post. Warner played in 16 games this season, racking up 137 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, 0.5 sacks, four passes defensed, a forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries heading into this playoff game, per Pro Football Reference.
