Head coach Kyle Shanahan stepped up to the podium after the San Francisco 49ers finally snapped their four-game losing streak with a 33-22 victory over the Chicago Bears. As the team celebrated their first win since September 19, Shanahan sounded a bit concerned about one of his defensive starters.
Jimmie Ward left the game with a quad injury, which could force the safety to miss time. Obviously, the team will learn more tomorrow. The coach was asked about his level of concern.
"A pretty big concern," Shanahan responded. "I mean, I don't know yet, but I think when you talk about pulling a quad, it's very similar to pulling a hamstring, and we'll see if that's the case on it."
Shanahan was not sure exactly when the injury occurred. Tavon Wilson replaced Ward. San Francisco entered the game without its other starting safety, Jaquiski Tartt. On Saturday, Tartt was placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury.
The only other injury Shanahan noted from the game was to safety Kai Nacua, who sustained a hamstring injury. Linebacker Fred Warner briefly exited the game but returned.
The 49ers will return to the Bay Area and begin preparing for their Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium.
