49ers-Cardinals Injury Report: Jimmy Garoppolo ruled out for Sunday; George Kittle doubtful

Oct 8, 2021 at 1:33 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo did not practice this week and has been ruled "out" for Sunday, which means fans will see rookie Trey Lance in his first career NFL start. Garoppolo suffered a calf injury during Week 4's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The hope was that he would take part in today's practice and test his right leg. That didn't happen.

Tight end George Kittle also did not practice this week and is listed as "doubtful." He is also dealing with a calf injury. It's the same injury that kept him out of practice for most of last week. However, Kittle was able to play this past weekend. We'll have to wait to see if he can do so again this weekend.

Below are the official injury reports for the 49ers and Cardinals, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff. Also included are Friday's practice participation reports.

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 13 contest against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington. Linebackers Dre Greenlaw and Marcell Harris did not practice. Harris remains in the concussion protocol. Both sustained their injuries during Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings. Greenlaw has been ruled "out" while Harris is "questionable." Running back Trey Sermon was also absent from practice due to the ankle injury suffered on Sunday. "It's not [a high-ankle sprain], but it was a pretty bad one," head coach Kyle Shanahan said earlier this week before admitting that injured reserve is a possibility for the rookie running back. "He'll be out for a little while." KNBR's Jake Hutchinson reports

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 12 contest against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Running back Elijah Mitchell is still in a blue no-contact jersey, per the only reporter on hand to watch Friday's practice, Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Mitchell is still recovering from surgery to repair a finger fracture. I was the only reporter on hand for the early portion of practice, which either means I'm incredibly dedicated or I'm a massive loser. (Please don't answer which). 49ers-Seahawks: George Kittle wouldn't be surprised if Fred Warner plays on Sunday

By David Bonilla

Earlier this week, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said star linebacker Fred Warner would miss this weekend's game against the Seattle Seahawks. One of Warner's teammates, however, wouldn't be surprised if the linebacker tries to fight through the hamstring strain he suffered on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Warner did not practice on Thursday. However, he was out on a side field testing his hamstring while his teammates practiced. "He had his 49ers' helmet and jersey on Thursday as he tested his hamstring strain on a side field, under the supervision of trainers for the first 20 minutes
