The San Francisco 49ers hosted linebacker Mychal Kendricks on a visit, per ESPN's Field Yates. The team initially signed the veteran on August 16. He landed on injured reserve on August 24 due to what was described as a "turf-toe sprain," and the team released him on September 2 with an injury settlement.

Yates reports that a reunion might be on the horizon.

"I mean we played against Mychal for a long time," head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Kendricks in August. "I mean, going back when I was in the NFC East, going against him in Philly all the time. And he's done a hell of a job in Seattle these last couple of years."

The Philadelphia Eagles made Kendricks a second-round draft pick out of California-Berkeley in 2012. Throughout his nine-year NFL career with the Eagles (2012-17), Seattle Seahawks (2018-20), and Washington Football Team (2020), the linebacker has appeared in 104 games with 91 starts and registered 536 tackles, 30 passes defensed, 19 sacks, seven forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and four interceptions.

At the time of his initial offseason signing, Kendricks was already familiar with the 49ers defense, having played with the Seahawks.

"It's not all new to him," defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans said in August. "Maybe new terminology and things like that he just has to translate, but Mych, he'll grasp the concepts pretty quickly. He's a good football player, a good veteran player who's done it in this league, and I'm just excited to add some depth to that room with a veteran who's done it before."
