49ers claim return specialist Nsimba Webster off waivers

Jul 21, 2021 at 2:31 PM--

According to Aaron Wilson, the San Francisco 49ers have claimed wide receiver and return specialist Nsimba Webster off waivers from the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams signed Webster (5-10, 180) as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington in 2019. He didn't register any catches in his two NFL seasons but averaged 7.4 yards on 25 punt returns and averaged 21.7 yards on 16 kick returns in 2020.

Webster, 25, grew up in Antioch, California.

"Growing up in the Bay Area, half of my family members liked the 49ers and half liked the Raiders," Webster told NFL Draft Blitz in 2019. "My dad was a 49ers fan, and I was a fan of theirs."

Webster will likely compete as a return specialist during training camp. 49ers players report to the team's facilities in Santa Clara next week.

Frelund: Return of these two star players set up 49ers for playoff return

By Rohan Chakravarthi

Earlier this week, on a Game Theory segment, Cynthia Frelund gave her argument for why the San Francisco 49ers will make the playoffs in 2021 after missing out in 2020. Frelund attributed their recent Super Bowl appearance as a factor in her decision as well as the multitude of injuries that affected the team last season. "They were in the Super Bowl just like five minutes ago and they had a whole bunch of injuries, but they get all those players back." Looking at the offensive side of the ball, Frelund highlighted star tight end George Kittle, who, according to Next Gen Stats, has averaged 8.0 yards after the catch per reception since 2018, which is the highest in the NFL given a minimum of 25 receptions. In addition to Kittle,

John Lynch: 49ers defense 'feeds off' Fred Warner's leadership and energy

The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the five-year extension for star linebacker Fred Warner. News of the deal was first reported yesterday. The $95.225 million contract could keep the All-Pro defender with San Francisco through the 2026 season. "We're extremely excited to have completed a long-term contract extension with Fred prior to the start of training camp," general manager John Lynch said via a statement. "Fred brings the type of leadership and energy every day that our defense and team feeds off. He earned this extension through hard work, discipline, and the professional way he goes about his business. We look forward to watching him continue to play at an

49ers' Fred Warner ranks No. 3 among NFL.com's best off-ball linebackers

NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks recently ranked his top five off-ball linebackers in the league, and San Francisco 49ers fans may be disappointed to learn that the team's star defender, Fred Warner, was not at the top of the list. He wasn't at No. 2 either. Warner, who signed a five-year, $95 million contract extension last week, came in at No. 3, behind Bobby Wagner of the Seattle Seahawks and Darius Leonard of the Indianapolis Colts. Maybe that will be further motivation for the 24-year-old linebacker, who has many years in front of him. "The All-Pro has become one of the league's most disruptive players as an

2019 49ers vs. 2021 49ers, Part 1 (Offense)

How well do the 2021 49ers stack up to the 2019 team? Lately I have listened to some podcasts and read some tweets comparing the current San Francisco 49ers team (2021) to the 2019 team that fell just short of winning the Super Bowl. I find the comparison interesting. And since many people quickly assume the 2021 49ers are not as good as the 2019 team, I wanted to take a look for myself. So as we prepare for the team to report on Tuesday, let's compare the two teams, position by position. For the purpose of this very scientific experiment, we will assume everyone is healthy (even though that never happens). Let's start on offense. The defensive comparison is coming soon.
