Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report picked one player from each NFL roster who could be each team's biggest X-factor in 2021 (h/t to Kirk Larrabee). These are players who aren't quarterbacks or prototypical stars. That would be too easy. However, these 32 players' performances during the upcoming season could mean the difference between reaching the Super Bowl or missing the playoffs entirely for their respective teams.

Who is Gagnon's pick for the San Francisco 49ers? The guidelines listed above throw out names like Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, and Nick Bosa. It does leave third-year wideout Deebo Samuel, though, and he is the pick for Kyle Shanahan's squad.

"So while there's a little more margin for error with Samuel (compared to Garoppolo, Kittle, or Bosa) because of the presence of second-year first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk at wide receiver, we'll go with Garoppolo's favorite non-Kittle target from 2019," wrote Gagnon.

Samuel turned heads as a rookie in 2019 but was plagued by injuries and limited last season. He only appeared in seven games in 2020 and recorded just 391 receiving yards. That was less than half his haul from the year before.

Samuel hauled in 57 passes for 802 yards with three scores as a rookie in 2019. His versatility forced some teams to dig deep into their draft evaluations in the hope of finding a similar player. One who could frustrate opposing defenses with his ability to catch like a receiver and run like a halfback.

Gagnon believes Samuel staying healthy and improving in 2021 can be a catalyst for other offensive teammates to excel. Players like Kittle and second-year wideout Brandon Aiyuk will strongly benefit from Samuel staying on the field during the upcoming season.

"The 49ers are stacked in a lot of spots, but a lot rests on Samuel's shoulders," Gagnon added. "It's hard to envision them rebounding from a brutal 2020 if he isn't a big factor next season."

By David Bonilla

Amidst swirling trade rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk, the speculation surrounding Deebo Samuel's future with the San Francisco 49ers seems to have quieted down. According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers have assured Samuel that he will not be involved in any pre- or post-draft transactions, ensuring his place on the roster for the time being. "Samuel, who signed a three-year, $71.55 million extension before the 2022 season, has been assured by his bosses that he will not be dealt during or after the draft," Silver reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions. With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal. Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night. Draft upgrades: 49ers' biggest need is obvious

By David Bonilla
Apr 22

The San Francisco 49ers mainly focused on fortifying their defense in free agency, leaving many to believe that the 2024 NFL Draft will be their chance to upgrade the offensive line. Most mock drafts predict the 49ers will select the best offensive tackle available to bolster the line's weak link—the right side—and potentially provide a succession plan for 35-year-old left tackle Trent Williams. Pro Football Focus recently examined each team's biggest need heading into the draft's first round and unsurprisingly listed offensive line for the 49ers. "The 49ers likely won't have the luxury of selecting the top offensive lineman with the 31st pick, but they can still find a quality player to improve a unit that was inconsistent in pass

Brandon Aiyuk's agent denies report of Steelers 'aggressively pursuing' the 49ers receiver

By David Bonilla
Apr 18

On Wednesday, Chat Sports contributor Chase Senior reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers were "aggressively pursuing" San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. He further stated that the Steelers are confident they can finalize a deal for the star player. REPORTS: The Pittsburgh Steelers are aggressively pursuing a Brandon Aiyuk trade and the Steelers would be "surprised" if they don't land Aiyuk. Of note: Pittsburgh has the 20th overall pick. The Niners could look at that as equal value for Aiyuk if they can't get a deal done.…
