Quarterback Joe Flacco won't be signing with the San Francisco 49ers. He recently visited with the team before heading to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles, and that's where he will stay. Flacco's agent reports that he is joining the Eagles.
The Baltimore Ravens drafted Flacco out of Delaware with the No. 18 overall pick in 2008. He spent 11 seasons there before being traded to the Denver Broncos in 2019. Flacco passed for 1,822 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions through eight starts with the Broncos in 2019.
The Broncos released Flacco the next offseason and the quarterback signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets. He appeared in five games in 2020 with four starts, completing 55.2 percent of his passes for 864 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions.
The 49ers have expressed a desire to bolster the quarterback position behind starter Jimmy Garoppolo, and adding a veteran with significant starting experience would do that. The only other quarterbacks currently under contract are Josh Rosen and journeyman Josh Johnson.
Flacco, 36, has completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 40,931 yards with 224 touchdowns and 144 interceptions through his 13 NFL seasons.
