Championship predictions: Fans envision Packers, Bills advancing to Super Bowl LV

Jan 24, 2021 at 10:48 AM--

The NFC Championship Game will feature quarterbacks with Bay Area ties. Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers grew up in San Mateo, while Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers grew up in Chico. The Packers will host the Buccaneers at Lambeau Field.

The NFC isn't the only conference with a California quarterback slinging passes in its conference championship game. Josh Allen grew up in Firebaugh. His Buffalo Bills will face the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Brady, Rodgers, and Allen each grew up as a fan of the San Francisco 49ers. Green Bay and Kansas City are each 3.5-point favorites in their respective matchups.

Simms can't envision a 49ers trade scenario involving Nick Bosa

By David Bonilla
Feb 22, 2021

Chris Simms conducted an ask-me-anything version of his podcast, Chris Simms Unbuttoned, and spent a good deal of time discussing quarterback Deshaun Watson and his situation with the Houston Texans. Watson wants out, but the Texans want to repair the estranged relationship. There would be high demand if Watson were actually able to force a trade. His no-trade clause means that he would have a lot of say in any potential destination. It's not a stretch to believe that San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan might be intrigued by the possibility of adding a talent like Watson to his offense. Of course, there is no urgency on the part of the 49ers, as they have made it clear they are pleased to move forward with Jimmy Garoppolo. San Francisco has

Two 'bold NFL predictions' from The Athletic involve the 49ers

By David Bonilla
Feb 15, 2021

Sheil Kapadia of The Athletic made 10 bold NFL predictions for this offseason, and two of them involved the San Francisco 49ers. Jimmy Garoppolo has to be the odds-on favorite to be the team's starting quarterback in 2021, but fans and the media continue to keep an eye on what's happening in Houston with Deshaun Watson. After all, if anything can tempt Kyle Shanahan to move on from Garoppolo, it might be the thought of adding an exciting playmaker like Watson to his offense. Kapadia admits that several things could happen in Houston that keep Watson from being traded. Maybe the two sides reconcile and move forward. Maybe the star quarterback decides to push

ESPN's Smith and Kellerman have different QB predictions for the 49ers

By David Bonilla
Feb 16, 2021

Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman of ESPN's First Take have different predictions on who will start at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers during the upcoming season. Kellerman often defends Jimmy Garoppolo against Smith's criticisms, so you might naturally assume that Kellerman would predict that San Francisco would avoid shaking things up. You might also assume that the critical Smith predicts that the 49ers move on from Garoppolo. The opposite is true. Smith envisions San Francisco sticking with Garoppolo while Kellerman has another quarterback in mind to lead head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense. "Me personally, I think it's going to be Jimmy G (as the 49ers' starter)," Smith declared. "That's what I believe. I believe that everybody's been

Orlovsky believes 49ers become Super Bowl contenders with Carson Wentz

By David Bonilla
Feb 17, 2021

There is no indication that the San Francisco 49ers are serious about Carson Wentz. There was a report that the team inquired about the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, but that may have just been general manager John Lynch and company doing their due diligence. It's always worth knowing the going rate for a former starting NFL quarterback, after all. Wentz isn't a fan-favorite trade candidate either. He was one of the worst quarterbacks in the league last season. His 65.0 overall Pro Football Focus grade was a career-low. One ESPN analyst feels Wentz paired with the 49ers could be a game-changer, though. Former quarterback Dan Orlovsky recently said that the Eagles passer with the Indianapolis Colts or San Francisco would make either team a Super Bowl
