Wright: Deshaun Watson with Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers should ‘terrify’ the NFL

Jan 8, 2021 at 1:48 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers fanbase is decidedly split on the prospect of mortgaging an insurmountable amount of draft capital for the prospect of adding Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Pro Football Focus laid out a hypothetical but realistic trade scenario for the quarterback that involved San Francisco shipping off its first-round picks in each of the next three drafts, this year's second-round pick, and Jimmy Garoppolo.

As of this post, the results of our poll on the subject are nearly evenly split, with half willing to do that and the other half unwilling to give up that much.

Everyone is voicing his or her opinion on the situation in Houston and taking advantage of the hot topic. That includes Nick Wright of FS1, who feels a pairing between Watson and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan would be dangerous for opposing offenses (h/t to Patrick Tulini for the find)

"The one [trade] that should terrify the NFL — San Francisco," Wright said on First Things First. "Deshaun Watson in Kyle Shanahan's offense ... to me, that's 14-2. You get (George) Kittle back, you get the defensive players back, Deshaun Watson in that offense, to me, that would be worth whatever San Francisco would have to pay for it."

Wright also adds that the New York Jets and Washington would make ideal trade partners, should things degrade enough in Houston for the Texans to consider moving on from one of the game's most exciting players.

Of course, that launched a flurry of speculation and trade scenarios on social media, mostly by fans who believe their teams should be on the phones immediately trying to strike some sort of deal with the Texans. That includes San Francisco 49ers fans, who, according to a recent poll, might be willing to sacrifice the future for the chance of adding a dynamic player like Watson. ESPN's Adam Schefter stated that Watson's anger level following a

Count Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice among those San Francisco 49ers fans who believe the team should look into trading for disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Rice joined 95.7 The Game on Monday morning and made his case for a deal after being asked if the move is something San Francisco should pursue. "Yeah, I think they should (trade for him)," Rice said on The Morning Roast. "You've got to look at all your options, and you look at Deshaun Watson, and there are rumors that he might go to Miami, he might go to the Patriots, and also the 49ers." Rice noted that he likes current 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo but acknowledges that he

Rapoport: NFL teams calling about Deshaun Watson despite Texans not saying they are interested in trade

By David Bonilla

Deshaun Watson is not a happy quarterback. That is no secret and, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, teams are reaching out to the Houston Texans to find out if the star player might become available. While Rapoport doesn't specifically mention the San Francisco 49ers, oddsmakers have given the Bay Area squad the third-best chance to have Watson on its roster at the start of the 2021 season. Of course, the Texans remain the favorite to have Watson for Week 1. Watson is not happy after the Texans asked for his involvement in the team's search for a new general manager and head coach. Then, members of the team's brass ignored the quarterback's suggestions and are
