According to San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be "out for a while" with a hamstring strain.
"I'm not ready to put a timeline on it yet," Shanahan said.
It is important to remember that the 49ers only have three regular-season games remaining, and the coach ended up providing a little bit of a timeline for the receiver's recovery.
"I think we'd have to make the playoffs for him to come back," Shanahan added.
With eight losses, it is unlikely the team earns a playoff spot. That means we have probably seen the last of Samuel this season.
The second-year receiver suffered the injury on the first offensive play of the game, and he was later ruled out. Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't sound too optimistic about Samuel's status after the 23-15 loss to Washington, saying the receiver's injury "didn't look good."
Samuel has appeared in just seven games this season, including Sunday's one-snap performance. He missed the first three games of the season while recovering from offseason foot surgery to repair a Jones fracture, and missed another three games with a hamstring strain.
Samuel has recorded 34 receptions for 400 yards with a receiving touchdown this season. The 49ers made him a second-round pick out of South Carolina last year.
Shanahan also provided the following injury updates:
OL Daniel Brunskill suffered a shoulder sprain and is day-to-day.
RB Raheem Mostert is dealing with an ankle injury. He is still undergoing tests and the team should know more by Wednesday.
LB Fred Warner is still undergoing tests after suffering a stinger. The team should know more about his status by Wednesday.
