49ers place Raheem Mostert, Jauan Jennings on injured reserve, activate two from practice squad

The San Francisco 49ers have announced the following roster moves ahead of their game on Sunday against the New England Patriots.
- RB Raheem Mostert has been placed on injured reserve
- S Johnathan Cyprien and S Jared Mayden have been activated from the practice squad
- WR Jauan Jennings has been placed on the practice squad injured reserve list
Mostert suffered a high-ankle sprain during last weekend's win over the Los Angeles Rams. It is unknown what injury Jennings sustained.
Cyprien and Mayden being activated was not unexpected. The 49ers will be without both of their starting safeties,
Jaquiski Tartt and
Jimmie Ward, on Sunday.
The following rundown has been provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
Cyprien (6-1, 211) was originally drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Throughout his seven-year career with the Jaguars (2013-16), Tennessee Titans (2017-18), Philadelphia Eagles (2019) and Atlanta Falcons (2019), he has appeared in 75 games (71 starts) and registered 502 tackles, 16 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, 3.0 sacks, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He signed with the 49ers as a free agent on August 17, 2020, was released by the team on September 5 and signed to the team's practice squad the following day.
A 30-year-old native of North Miami Beach, FL, Cyprien spent four years (2009-12) at Florida International University where he appeared in 50 games (45 starts) and finished his career with 365 tackles, 22 passes defensed, 13.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 1.0 sack.
Cyprien will wear number 32.
Mayden (6-0, 205) originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2020. He was waived by the team on September 5 and signed to the team's practice squad the following day.
A 22-year-old native of Sachse, TX, Mayden attended the University of Alabama where he appeared in 36 games (11 starts) and registered 82 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, four interceptions and 1.0 sack. In 2019, he appeared in 12 games (11 starts) and recorded 59 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and ranked second in the SEC with four interceptions.
Mayden will wear number 43.
Mostert (5-10, 205) started in four games this season and registered 51 carries for 303 yards and one touchdown to go along with 11 receptions for 150 yards and one touchdown through the air.
Jennings (6-3, 212) signed to the team's practice squad on September 6, 2020.

The San Francisco 49ers have activated rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw from the reserve/COVID-19 list. The team also announced that it has signed wide receiver Jordan Matthews to the practice squad. To make room for Matthews, the 49ers have released wide receiver Chris Finke from the practice squad.
Matthews worked out for the team earlier this week. The veteran wideout spent last offseason and part of the 2019 regular season with the 49ers.
Kinlaw's activation leaves six 49ers players on the reserve/COVID-19 list. They are listed below.

Kyle Shanahan expects rookie receiver Jauan Jennings to return this season

San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Jauan Jennings landed on the practice squad injured reserve list on October 24. Nothing was really said of his injury, though. Today, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about his 23-year-old receiver and revealed that the rookie is dealing with a hamstring injury.
Shanahan doesn't expect Jennings to remain out for the remainder season, though. The coach hopes his young receiver can return soon and maybe even contribute, if needed.
"I'm hoping [he returns]," Shanahan told reporters. "We think (he's) about three weeks away. It was tough because he was doing really good in practice and definitely would have ended up helping us this year. But he pulled his hamstring really bad, as bad as anyone we've had this
