San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed tried to stay inbounds in the end zone while hauling in a pass from quarterback Nick Mullens during the first quarter against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. The veteran appeared to roll his ankle on the play, leaving the Niners down to Ross Dwelley and rookie Charlie Woerner at tight end.
Reed was ruled out of bounds on the play.
The 49ers later announced that Reed was "questionable" to return, and the tight end did so during the second quarter. He was, however, seen on the sideline late in the first half having his left knee and leg examined by the medical staff.
Reed was seen slowly and carefully heading into the locker room ahead of his teammates at the end of the first half. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed at halftime that the 49ers will be without Reed for the remainder of the game, per Pam Oliver of FOX.
Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley collided with safety Jaquiski Tartt as the two attempted to tackle Giants quarterback Daniel Jones at the start of the second quarter. Moseley was evaluated for a concussion and initially listed as "questionable" to return. He was later ruled "out" after confirmation that he suffered a concussion.
That leaves Jason Verrett and Dontae Johnson in at the two cornerback spots. Ahkello Witherspoon is inactive and Richard Sherman is on short-term injured reserve.
