Former 49ers QB Joe Montana and wife confront intruder allegedly trying to kidnap grandchild

Sep 27, 2020 at 8:22 AM--

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana and his wife, Jennifer, confronted and wrestled with an intruder who was allegedly attempting to kidnap one of their grandchildren at their home in Malibu, California on Saturday, according to TMZ Sports.

"Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Sports ... at 5 PM Saturday a 39-year-old woman entered the home where the Joe and Jennifer Montana were staying -- she got in through an unlocked door," wrote TMZ. "The intruder saw a woman holding a baby -- it's unclear who was holding the infant.

"Our law enforcement sources say the intruder walked away with Montana's grandchild to another part of the house where she was confronted by Joe and Jennifer. They wrestled the baby away from the woman. The intruder then ran out of the house."

The intruder was booked on kidnapping and burglary charges, according to the report.

TMZ Sports reports that Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies happened to be in the area responding to an unrelated matter and that someone from inside Montana's home flagged them down and told them what happened. The intruder was caught a few blocks away.

H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.

The San Francisco 49ers lost one of their most influential leaders on offense when Joe Staley retired this offseason. That doesn't mean the six-time Pro Bowl tackle, who spent his entire 13-year NFL career with the Niners, isn't still influencing his former teammates. After Sunday's embarrassing 43-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins, Staley reached out to George Kittle and offered up some advice to the All-Pro tight end, who is always trying to evolve as a leader for his teammates. "[Staley] was just, 'Look, you have to hold people accountable, and you have to tell them that you have to hold them to the highest standard because that's what we've done for the last three years, is hold guys to an incredibly high standard,'" Kittle shared with reporters on Thursday.
