The Los Angeles Rams announced on Thursday that they have released their All-Pro running back, Todd Gurley. There were rumors that the team was searching for a trade partner, but it seems no one was willing to take on the player's massive contract.
The Rams, then in St. Louis, made Gurley the No. 10 overall selection in 2015 after playing college football at Georgia. He carried the football 223 times for 857 yards with 12 rushing touchdowns while adding 31 receptions for 207 yards with two receiving touchdowns through 15 starts with the Rams in 2019.
This past season was a down year for Gurley, who had rushed for over 1,200 yards during his previous two seasons and has surpassed 1,000 yards in three of his five NFL seasons.
The running back was set to count over $17.2 million against Los Angeles' salary cap in 2020. The release carries a cap hit of $20.2 million in dead money for the Rams.
Gurley, 25, is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time first-team All-Pro. He has racked up 5,404 rushing yards on 1,265 attempts with 58 rushing touchdowns over his pro career.
