Frank Gore ‘could not be happier’ for Super Bowl-bound Joe Staley, 49ers

Jan 20, 2020 at 2:02 PM--

San Francisco 49ers tackle Joe Staley once called former teammate Frank Gore his "favorite player in the history of the world." In two weeks, Staley will head to his second Super Bowl, and the 13-year veteran hopes this one turns out better than the last — with a victory.

Gore, who played this past season with the Buffalo Bills, hopes so too. He remains fond of the organization that made him a third-round draft pick out of the University of Miami in 2005, and on Monday responded to a tweet by Staley.

I guess we know which team Gore will be pulling for on Super Bowl Sunday.

Staley and Gore were teammates for eight seasons in San Francisco. This past season, his 15th in the NFL, Gore climbed to No. 3 on the all-time career rushing yards list, surpassing Barry Sanders and behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.

Here is everything he had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. I'm going to shoot my shot here and ask you about DL Dee Ford and what your level of concern is or if you know the reasoning as to his absence from practice today? "Not overly concerned. 49ers DB Jimmie Ward not surprised Frank Gore still going strong at age 37

By Kirk Larrabee

There's probably a number of people who never expected to see New York Jets running back Frank Gore still going strong in the NFL at age 37, but his former teammate Jimmie Ward isn't one of them. Ward is one of two current 49ers players who were on the roster when Gore was last with the team in 2014, with cornerback Dontae Johnson being the other. Gore was a model of consistency back then, having rushed for over 1,000 yards in eight of nine seasons going back to 2006, and had just wrapped up a season of 1,106 yards and four touchdowns when he and the 49ers didn't come to terms on a new contract after the 2014 season. Gore will face off against his former team when the 49ers face the Jets on Sunday, the second time he's done so since parting ways with the 49ers in
