The San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 26-21 in the final game of the year. In doing so, they emerge as the NFC West champions and own the best record in the conference, giving the Kyle Shanahan-led squad home-field advantage throughout the playoffs courtesy of being the No. 1 seed.
So which team do they play next? The 49ers will have to wait until the results of the Wildcard round of the playoffs to find out. San Francisco will begin its path to the Super Bowl by hosting the weakest seeded opponent from the playoff's first round.
That could mean a game at Levi's Stadium against the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, or another matchup against the Seahawks, depending on the outcome of next weekend's games.
That game will take place on Saturday, January 11, the 49ers announced.
The New Orleans Saints, should they win, would be the strongest seeded team to emerge from the first round of the playoffs. The Green Bay Packers will host the strongest seeded team to emerge from the Wildcard round.
Meanwhile, for the Seahawks, they will travel to Philadelphia to face the Eagles — the NFC East division winner.
For the 49ers, the first-round bye is a welcome break. The team has not had extended time off since Week 4's bye. That means some much-needed rest for several banged-up players looking to get healthy before then.
