Adam Peters explains why the 49ers were at Trevor Lawrence's pro day
By David Bonilla
Feb 16, 2021
San Francisco 49ers VP of player personnel Adam Peters recently spoke with Matt Barrows of The Athletic. He was asked about the team's presence in South Carolina to watch Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Niners own the No. 12 overall pick in the upcoming draft, and Lawrence is expected to be the top selection, going to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Yet, San Francisco was among 17 teams in attendance to watch Lawrence.
Peters reminds everyone that there were other players there. For example, one of the receivers that Lawrence was throwing to during the workout was Cornell Powell, who caught 53 passes for 882 yards and seven touchdowns for the Tigers last season.

Football Outsiders calls Vikings' Kirk Cousins a 'healthier version' of 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo
By David Bonilla
Feb 24, 2021
In a feature for ESPN, Football Outsiders suggested a non-Deshaun Watson bold move for each NFL team. Before continuing, it is important to note that they admit some of the suggestions are far-fetched but believe that each would improve the teams' chances of winning.
The suggestion for the San Francisco 49ers is to trade for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.
I'll pause for the collective groan from readers.
This isn't really about the trade itself, though, but the reason behind the suggestion and why Cousins' name keeps coming up for the 49ers when the Vikings — nor Cousins — have given any indication

49ers WR Travis Benjamin after a year away: "I can't wait to get back to football"
By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers signed speedy former Browns and Chargers wide receiver Travis Benjamin to a one-year, $1.05 million contract last April. He was excited to be reunited with head coach Kyle Shanahan. San Francisco was so confident that Benjamin could contribute that it was willing to trade away its fastest wideout, Marquise Goodwin, during the draft.
Just over a month later, tragedy hit Benjamin's family. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has been going strong for nearly a year now, had hit home. The receiver lost his 77-year-old grandmother to complications from the virus. That changed Benjamin's outlook.
"I was ready for the season,"

Richard Sherman describes conversations with John Lynch about leaving 49ers as 'fantastic'
By David Bonilla
Feb 23, 2021
Richard Sherman plans to play for another team in 2021. It sounds like the San Francisco 49ers expect that to happen, too. The veteran cornerback will hit free agency next month, and the Niners will move forward without him. The team has a reduced salary-cap to deal with and several tough decisions to make, making Sherman set to become a cap casualty.
Cris Collinsworth recently asked Sherman what that conversation with general manager John Lynch was like. The defender says there is no animosity between the two sides. Sherman, who acts as his own agent and is part of the NFLPA executive committee, understands professional football's business side. That is allowing the two sides to part amicably.
"Honestly, it was fantastic. It was business-like," Sherman told
