During Sunday's 48-46 win over the New Orleans Saints, the San Francisco 49ers players wore decals on their helmets honoring the late Tony York, who passed away nearly a year ago. Head coach Kyle Shanahan wore a pin on his jacket with the same design.
Shanahan addressed his team after the victory at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and handed out five game balls to the York family, including Tony's brother, Jed, and father, John.
An emotional John York then addressed the team after Shanahan was done speaking.
"Guys, I've got to say, obviously we know why we're getting these game balls," York said as he started to tear up. "I wish I never had one, and we could not have done this without all of you. The coaches were terrific. Jimmy (Garoppolo), this was the best game you ever played. George (Kittle), great at the end. Robbie (Gould), thank you.
"So congratulations. This is (for) all of us. So thank you, Kyle, John (Lynch), everybody. Thank you."
