The San Francisco 49ers may be 9-1 and own the NFC's best record, but there is still a lot of doubt out there when it comes to one specific player on the roster. Many don't have a great deal of faith in quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
I'm not talking about Stephen A. Smith, who again this week voiced his opinion of Garoppolo. I'm referring to former NFL safety turned analyst on NBC Sports' Football Night in America, Rodney Harrison, who is among the Niner quarterback's doubters.
Harrison joined Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk and was asked about Jimmy Garoppolo. Florio sees the quarterback as the weak link on this year's 49ers squad, and asked Harrison if he trusts Garoppolo based on what he's seen from him so far this year.
"I don't," Harrison responded. "I don't trust him. I think he's really in a great situation with the run game, and having a very solid defense. But there's, at times, where he makes those bone-headed mistakes, and as you get closer to the winter time, as you get closer to the playoffs, you can't make those types of mistakes. I just don't think he's been in that situation enough. I don't trust him."
Garoppolo is coming off of a career game against the Arizona Cardinals, where he completed 75.6 percent of his passes for 424 yards with four touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions, however, and those types of mistakes have been a point of criticism among the quarterback's skeptics.
Garoppolo has thrown 18 touchdowns this season but has also tossed 10 interceptions, and has thrown at least one pick in eight of his 10 games.
Harrison, like others in the national media, may not be high on Garoppolo yet, but for what it's worth, the analyst said he does trust the 49ers quarterback more than the signal-caller for the Los Angeles Rams, Jared Goff.
A lot will be learned about Garoppolo and the 49ers as a whole during the upcoming three-game stretch when the team faces the Green Bay Packers at home, and then the Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints on the road.
