The Arizona Cardinals will likely be without one of their key offensive weapons, running back David Johnson, when the team hosts the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Johnson will also miss Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, per the report.
Cardinals RB David Johnson won't play Sunday against the Saints due to his ankle injury, per source. Johnson is expected to miss Sunday vs. Saints and Thursday night's game against the San Francisco 49ers, per source.
Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Friday that Johnson's availability for Sunday would be a game-time decision. It looks like the ankle injury that limited him to three snaps last week against the New York Giants won't be fully recovered until after Thursday's meeting with San Francisco.
"He tried to go (back in against the Giants)," Kingsbury said this past week, "tried to tough it out and wasn't himself and didn't feel good. We want to make sure he feels like himself and 100 percent before we put him out there."
Chase Edmonds is expected to be the primary running back in place of Johnson. He carried the football 27 times for 126 yards with three touchdowns in the Cardinals' 27-21 win over the Giants last weekend.
Arizona signed running backs Alfred Morris, who spent last season with San Francisco, and Zach Zenner on Wednesday.
In the meantime, the Cardinals look to get above .500 against the Saints on Sunday while the 49ers look to remain undefeated against the Carolina Panthers.
