Dee Ford earns top PFF grade from 49ers’ win vs. Rams

San Francisco 49ers defensive linemen Dee Ford and Arik Armstead earned the top Pro Football Focus grades from the team's 20-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Ford's grade was the best from both squads in the matchup.

Ford officially finished the game with four combined tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.

The defense played some dominant football against the Rams, holding the opposing offense to a season-low 157 total yards. Rams quarterback Jared Goff earned his lowest PFF grade (50.2) of the season and his lowest since that dreadful performance against the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl (49.1).

Usually, we start by listing the top grades on offense, but in honor of the defense's impressive performance, we're going to switch it up this week.

Below are the five 49ers players on defense who earned PFF's top grades against the Rams.

  • Dee Ford, DE (94.9)
  • Arik Armstead, DL (90.3)
  • Jimmie Ward, DB (89.8)
  • Solomon Thomas, DL (77.8)
  • Nick Bosa, DE (71.3)

Below are the five 49ers players on offense with PFF's top grades in the same game. For those who were worried about right tackle Mike McGlinchey's replacement, Daniel Brunskill, the offensive lineman was among the top five.

  • George Kittle, TE (85.4)
  • Matt Breida, RB (76.0)
  • Daniel Brunskill, RT (75.2)
  • Dante Pettis, WR (69.3)
  • Levine Toilolo, TE (67.9)

The biggest San Francisco 49ers news of the offseason broke today when the team agreed to terms on a five-year, $75 million contract extension with tight end George Kittle. The deal makes the All-Pro the highest-paid tight end in football history. Pass rusher Dee Ford spoke with reporters on Thursday via a video conference call. He was asked what it is like facing Kittle in practice and if he remembers going against the tight end during the Kansas City Chiefs' 2018 matchup against the 49ers at Arrowhead Stadium. "I do remember that game," Ford responded. "Me, him, and Joe (Staley) talked a lot, my last year in Kansas City, in between the plays. It was a very fun game. "Kittle is Kittle, man. He's a beast. Of course we planned for him, and he still

By David Bonilla
Aug 13, 2020

Yes, they play different positions and will be asked to do different things this season. Still, veteran pass rusher Dee Ford sees similarities between incoming rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and pass rusher Nick Bosa, who was a rookie last year. Ford was asked about Kinlaw during a video conference call on Thursday. "Everything that you want to see in a rookie — he wants to be a sponge, he wants to soak everything up, and he wants to learn," Ford said. "He reminds me of Bosa when he came in. He didn't say too much. When you're a first-round draft pick ... you can be a little entitled. That's not him. That's not (in) his DNA. "He fits in well with the guys. When you come here, John (Lynch) and Kyle (Shanahan), they get specific players, so
