Make some room on the bandwagon because the San Francisco 49ers have some late boarders. The team is 4-0 for the first time since 1990 and for only the fourth time in franchise history. The 49ers are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFC and one of just two in all of the NFL (Patriots).
Monday night's win against the Cleveland Browns was viewed as a statement game for these 49ers, and boy, did they make a statement on the way to a dominant 31-3 victory in front of a national audience.
That national media is starting to believe in this team, and count ESPN's Cris Carter among those looking for any open seats on the bandwagon. At first, it sounded like there might be some excuses, like how poorly Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield played. Carter, however, wanted to make sure the 49ers got their due credit.
"We better give San Francisco some credit because we might get to December and look back and say, 'Man, did we miss it,'" Carter said Tuesday morning during a discussion with Nick Wright on "First Things First."
"I'm not going to be a part of that, alright? This is a good football team, after a week's rest, that I believe is well-coached, and Cleveland does not match up with the San Francisco 49ers, especially on that offensive line.
"But I guarantee, we're going to be on this TV a lot on Sundays and Mondays talking about San Francisco. And you know what? (They) made another offensive line look bad because that defensive line, right now, is on par to be the best defensive line that we have in the NFL."
