San Francisco 49ers tight end
George Kittle's statistics for this season don't jump out at you. He has 17 catches for 165 yards and has yet to reach the end zone. Kittle is on pace for 880 receiving yards, which would be significantly fewer than the record-breaking 1,377 he had last year.
Still, Kittle so far has earned Pro Football Focus' highest overall grade in the NFL. The Pro Bowl tight end's 92.7 grade tops the league regardless of position and edges Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack's 91.8 overall grade.
As he did last season, Kittle leads the 49ers in receptions and receiving yards. He also leads the team in targets (20), according to Pro Football Focus. Kittle's yards after the catch average (6.2) leads qualifying NFL tight ends and his 85 percent reception percentage tops last year's mark of 68.8 percent.
Field Yates of ESPN
joined KNBR on Tuesday morning and shared that he is just waiting for Kittle to explode on offense, much as he did last year, and lift the 49ers to another level.
"On offense, George Kittle, yet to score a touchdown," Yates said on the "Murph and Mac" show. "One of the dynamic playmakers, period, in the NFL. I'd imagine that defensive coordinators are kind of just waiting with bated breath, but in a bad way, for when Kittle gets going.
"I know he had a couple of scores taken off the board, at least one in Week 1 against the Buccaneers, but that's kind of a scary thought. If you haven't played the 49ers yet and you're Browns defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, you know he knows, amongst other players, what Kittle can do having been the Cardinals head coach last year.
"George Kittle still hasn't hit full-on Kittle nastiness, and that right there is an area that can really take this offense to another level."

George Kittle hopes 49ers offense can 'take another step forward'
George Kittle recently spoke with ESPN during the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, where he joined other NFL stars for the golfing event. Of course, the conversation shifted toward football, with Laura Rutledge asking Kittle to reflect on the team's 2023 season, its Super Bowl defeat, and the motivation it provides for the upcoming season.
The tight end believes San Francisco maintained a competitive roster this offseason and is gearing up for another run at a championship. He emphasized the importance of maintaining good health and continual improvement for a successful upcoming season.
"Brock Purdy is a fantastic quarterback, and he's only going to get better because he's young," Kittle said. "And we were fortunate enough to be able to keep our entire
PFF mock draft has 49ers adding cornerback with 'unique fluidity and size'
Analyst Steve Palazzolo unveiled a first-round mock draft for Pro Football Focus, attempting to forecast the selections for each NFL team within the top 32 picks. While the San Francisco 49ers concentrated on strengthening the defensive line in free agency, Palazzolo envisions the team continuing to fortify that side of the ball.
In his mock draft, Palazzolo predicts that the 49ers will select former Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa with the No. 31 overall pick.
"Tampa's unique fluidity and size for a cornerback make him worthy of a top-75 pick," reads the analysis from Pro Football Focus' big board. "If he can clean up his footwork, he can
PFF identifies 49ers draft fits in Day 2 and 3
The San Francisco 49ers have experienced success in the latter two days of the draft, discovering hidden gems capable of becoming key contributors. Some examples include tight end George Kittle in the fifth round in 2017, linebacker Fred Warner in the third round in 2018, wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the second round in 2019, and, famously, quarterback Brock Purdy with the final overall pick in 2022.
Pro Football Focus recently pinpointed one draft fit for each team on Day 2 and another for Day 3. Contributor Dalton Wasserman handled the duties for Day 2, zeroing in on former Oregon defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus, who can excel on the edge or interior in
PFF high on this cornerback for 49ers in mock draft
Analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic grades former Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa as a second or third-round draft pick and ranks him 55th overall on his big board. Pro Football Focus, however, holds a higher opinion of the young defensive back. In his latest mock draft, the site's lead analyst, Sam Monson, has the San Francisco 49ers selecting Tampa with the No. 31 overall pick.
"T.J. Tampa fits the prototype of a 49ers cornerback," Monson explains. "He has had consecutive seasons of very impressive play and allowed just 240 yards on 49 targets last season. The team doesn't necessarily need him to make an immediate impact, but they could
