Long snapper Jon Condo's time with the San Francisco 49ers didn't last long. He was signed on September 17, and six days later, is being placed on the reserve/retired list, according to NBC Sports Bay Area.

"After joining the team, Condo struggled in practices and did not look sharp on his snaps during the team's 24-20 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Levi's Stadium," noted Matt Maiocco.
Condo, 38, is a two-time Pro Bowl selection. The Dallas Cowboys signed the long snapper as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland in 2005. He spent the majority of his career with the Oakland Raiders (2006–17) and part of last season with the Atlanta Falcons.
Kyle Shanahan was asked about the situation with Condo on Monday.
"He said his heart wasn't in it, so definitely [the retirement] surprised us," the head coach said. "He did a real good job for us in the game, had a good week of practice, but I do appreciate him coming and telling us what was in his head, and I have a lot of respect for that. Sometimes that's hard for guys to do."
Condo replaced Colin Holba, who was waived upon the signing. Shanahan was asked last week about the decision to replace Holba with Condo.
"After a couple of weeks, not just the games, but some things in practice too, we just felt that we could get better and when there was an option out there we pulled the trigger and hopefully we will," Shanahan responded.
Holba remains available, and Shanahan was asked if the long snapper was doing something wrong, leading to being waived.
"No, he wasn't perfect so we are just trying to see if we can get someone a little more consistent," the coach answered. "He wasn't bad though either. We just thought we could make an upgrade."
