Defensive lineman DeForest Buckner made sure to point out to reporters that the Seattle Seahawks lost on Sunday.
That is the good news for the 3-0 San Francisco 49ers.
The bad news is that the Cleveland Browns could not find a way to knock off the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday evening.
The Rams, also 3-0, share first place in the NFC West with just one team now — the surprising 49ers, who beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-20 on Sunday. Los Angeles could overtake San Francisco next week with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 49ers will be on a bye week and won't play again until Monday, October 7 when they host the Browns at Levi's Stadium.
The next week, the 49ers will face their first NFC West opponent when they travel to Los Angeles to play the Rams. The 49ers and Rams are two of eight unbeaten teams in the NFL — counting the 2-0-1 Detroit Lions.
San Francisco is 3-0 for the first time since 1998 and the eighth time in franchise history. Sunday's win came despite five turnovers committed by the 49ers. San Francisco surpassed 400 yards of total offense and 160 yards rushing for the second straight week.
The 49ers improved to 12-10 overall against the Steelers, including a 6-5 record at home, and have now won three straight home games against Pittsburgh.
