The San Francisco 49ers debuted season three of the team's online documentary-style series, "Brick by Brick," on Wednesday. In it, fans got glimpses of portions of the 49ers offseason so far, including the Senior Bowl in January.
Injury prevented wide receiver Jalen Hurd from participating in the practices and game itself, but he was there for the weigh-in. Hurd was recovering from knee surgery he underwent the month before.
In a bit of foreshadowing, "Brick by Brick" shows a conversation between Hurd and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan at the Senior Bowl. San Francisco ended up selecting Hurd in the third round of the draft.
Shanahan is heard explaining the relationship he has with general manager John Lynch. Hurd says he can envision there being a lot of places where the general manager and head coach aren't on the same page. The 49ers coach agreed.
"John and I came in together, we did this together," Shanahan told Hurd. "It's just tough. You hope everyone's agenda is the same, you have the same intentions, but when it goes bad, people are also trying to survive and not have to move their families and get fired.
"When the owner wants to know which one of your fault is it, sometimes people start to have different opinions. But when you know you're either going to win together or go down together, it makes it much smoother.
"But you've got to have the right people to do that. You can't just say we're going to do that. So it takes a certain type of people. Lynch is that type of guy."
You can watch the entire premiere episode from the new season of "Brick by Brick" below. The portion with Shanahan and Hurd begins at about the 1:20 mark.
