The last time the San Francisco 49ers boasted a 1,000-yard wide receiver was in 2014 when Anquan Boldin surpassed that mark with 1,062 receiving yards. No 49ers wideout surpassed even half that milestone last season.
Kendrick Bourne led San Francisco's wide receivers group with 487 receiving yards while Dante Pettis racked up 467 yards during his rookie campaign. The 49ers were the only team last season not to have a wideout with 500-or-more receiving yards and one of just three that did not have a receiver gain 600-or-more yards (Miami, Washington).
Having a 1,000-yard receiver isn't likely at the top of Kyle Shanahan's priorities for the upcoming season. The 49ers head coach is creative and capable of generating offense using several offensive weapons rather than focusing primarily on a single receiver. However, that doesn't mean he isn't capable of doing so when he has an elite receiver at his disposal and wouldn't welcome the opportunity.
Last season, Shanahan helped George Kittle set a single-season NFL record for receiving yards by a tight end with 1,377 yards. Wide receiver Julio Jones combined for 3,280 receiving yards in the two seasons when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. That includes a career-high 1,871 receiving yards in 2015.
Several other wideouts have enjoyed dominant seasons within Shanahan's offense, including Pierre Garçon and Santana Moss while with the Washington Redskins.
When will the 49ers' wide receiver drought end? Is there a wideout on the roster capable of reaching the 1,000-yard mark in 2019?
We asked the Niner Faithful which wide receiver, if any, is capable of eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards during the upcoming season and the overwhelming favorite is second-year player Dante Pettis, who earned 65 percent of the fan votes. Coming in at a distant second was rookie Deebo Samuel with 19 percent of the votes.
