Richard Sherman would like to remind you that the 49ers are a squad devastated by injuries

Dec 2, 2018 at 7:44 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers' record sits at 2-10 right now. It's nowhere near where coaches and players expected to be at this point in the season. Sometimes it's tough for fans to remember that the 49ers are a squad devastated by injuries as they watch their favorite football team lose week after week.

Richard Sherman would like to remind you.

"We're just beat up," Sherman told reporters after the 43-16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. "You think about the guys we have out there; we lose our number one receiver, number two receiver, number one quarterback, number two quarterback, number one running back. It just ends up adding up."

Sherman is referring to Marquise Goodwin, Pierre Garçon, Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard, and Jerick McKinnon.

Beathard is healthy again but an injury earlier in the season thrust Nick Mullens into the starting quarterback role. Both Garoppolo and McKinnon were lost for the season. Who knows when or if Garçon will play again? He has been dealing with a knee injury for most of the season. Goodwin isn't injured but excused from the team as he deals with a personal matter.

That's just the offense.

"You lose your starting safety. You lose your backup safety," Sherman said as he continued with his list. "You lose person after person. You lose two of your WILL linebackers and then [Malcolm Smith] is kind of beat up. It's just guys beat up. But guys are fighting hard and giving us the best chance."

Injuries are part of life in the NFL. The good teams endure through setbacks. The 49ers, however, seem to have seen more injuries than most during head coach Kyle Shanahan's tenure. Most fans seemed to check out sometime during the fourth quarter of the team's Week 3 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs. That's when the 49ers lost their star quarterback.

San Francisco has been fielding backups and third-stringers at several positions, including the team's most important one — quarterback.

"Kyle's coming up with great plans," Sherman continued. "Obviously, Nick (Mullens) threw for 400 (yards) today. The guys are getting yards. We've just got to execute in the red zone and on defense, we've got to find a way to get the ball."

The 49ers will face a surging Broncos team next. Then it will be a rematch against the Seahawks at Levi's Stadium before games against the Chicago Bears and division champion Los Angeles Rams. Finishing 2-14 looks very realistic. A disappointment after finishing last season on a five-game winning streak? Sure.

At least there is the draft.

Richard Sherman concerned about 49ers as his former squad faces must-win game

By David Bonilla

Richard Sherman has been high on his former squad, the San Francisco 49ers. Earlier this month, he predicted a Super Bowl win for Kyle Shanahan's team. Then, two weeks later, after an 0-1 start, Sherman doubled down on that prediction. Is his faith in the 49ers' chances this season starting to waver? San Francisco is now 1-2 after an 11-10 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. They say defense win championships, and the 49ers have one of the best in the league right now. While that unit looks to be in mid-season form, the offense has

ESPN: 49ers believed Jimmy Garoppolo would be traded to Commanders

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch has repeatedly stated that he felt a trade of Jimmy Garoppolo would happen. Few felt the veteran quarterback would be with the 49ers by the start of the 2022 season. Of course, Garoppolo's decision to undergo shoulder surgery on March 8 changed everything. It put everything on hold. It turned out to put everything permanently on hold. Teams that sought a quarterback filled their needs. No one was trading for a recovering Garoppolo. By the time he was healthy again, all of the quarterback musical chairs had been filled. Garoppolo was the one left without a seat. So Garoppolo returned to the 49ers on a restructured one-year deal, ready to serve as Trey Lance's backup. That changed on Sunday when Lance went down with a

Kyle Shanahan would be surprised if George Kittle doesn't play in 49ers-Broncos

Get ready for tight end George Kittle's 2022 season debut. He's likely to be on the field with his teammates on Sunday when the San Francisco 49ers visit the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High. "I'd be surprised if he doesn't play," 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday morning on KNBR's Murph & Mac show. "We can't say for sure yet but he's been good in these two days of practice. Should be good today, and if we don't have any setbacks, he should be playing." Friday's typically lighter practice is the last before the 49ers board a plane for Denver. "Any time you add one of your better players out there, it helps in every area," Shanahan added. "George is really good in the run game, and he's good in the pass game, so

The San Francisco 49ers have promoted running back Marlon Mack from the practice squad to the active roster, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The team has been without starter Elijah Mitchell since Week 1 when he suffered an MCL sprain. He is on injured reserve. On Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, rookie running back Ty Davis-Price suffered a high-ankle sprain and will miss a few weeks. 49ers are signing veteran RB Marlon Mack on to their active roster from their practice squad, per his agents @DrewJRosenhaus and
