San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo received a good report from surgeons when he awoke from his knee surgery on Wednesday. Both head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch said this week that they heard from the surgeon that the procedure went well.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan hopes Garoppolo can return to throwing by OTAs next June.

"I haven't gotten a timeline yet," Shanahan said on Friday. "I know you guys will probably hold me to it, but I'm hoping that he will be able to get into OTAs and do some non-contact stuff with throwing the ball and everything."

Shanahan also recently said that a surgeon never knows the full extent of the damage until surgery. There was some other minor damage found in Garoppolo's knee, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, but the ACL was all that needed to be repaired. The additional damage should not prevent a relatively obstacle-free rehab, the NFL insider reports.

Garoppolo appears on track for a typical recovery from this type of injury and could be throwing again around nine months after it occurred.
