Both the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions are coming off of Week 1 defeats. The Minnesota Vikings beat the visiting 49ers 24-16 on Sunday while the New York Jets pummeled the home-team Lions 48-17 on Monday night.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was 15-of-33 for 261 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions in Minnesota while his Lions counterpart, Matthew Stafford, was 27-of-46 for 286 yards with a touchdown and four picks against the Jets.
The 49ers and Lions will both try to get into the win column on Sunday at Levi's Stadium. As things stand now, Vegas oddsmakers have Garoppolo and the home-team 49ers listed as anywhere from 3.5- to 5-point favorites over Stafford and the visiting Lions, according to various casinos and betting sites.
The spread consensus has the 49ers as 5.5-point favorites. Those numbers could change as the game draws near. The over/under for Sunday's game is listed at 47.5 points.
While Detroit came away with the win the last time the two teams met, San Francisco won each of the previous nine meetings. That Detroit victory saw the Lions beat the 49ers 32-17 at Ford Field in 2015. San Francisco leads the all-time series 37-28-1.
The 49ers and Lions kick off at 1:05 p.m. PT on Sunday.
