John Lynch and the 49ers sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Kyle Shanahan ... and he didn’t like it

Dec 14, 2017 at 5:39 PM--

Despite it being his 38th birthday, Thursday was a typical workday for San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. The team had its second practice of the week as it prepares for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans. The 49ers held their typical team meeting on Thursday morning and tried to surprise Shanahan by singing "Happy Birthday" to him.

General manager John Lynch joined KNBR on Thursday night and shared how that went over with the 49ers head coach.

"We all sang to him in the team meeting room," Lynch said on the "Tolbert & Lund" show. "He didn't like that, really. He just wanted to get out. He said, 'I'll make sure to sing to every one of you on your birthday too.'

"I think Kyle's real focused on putting a game plan together against a really good Tennessee team so he didn't really want to talk about it much but we made him at least think about it a little."

We suppose it's good to hear that Shanahan's focus is 100-percent on Sunday's game.

You can listen to the entire interview with Lynch below.

George Kittle wishes the 49ers didn't delay Deebo Samuel extension

Earlier this week, Bleacher Report listed what it believes is the one offseason regret for each NFL team. For the San Francisco 49ers, it was the team not locking wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a contract extension earlier—before the receiver market exploded earlier in the offseason and Samuel requested to be traded. One 49ers star wishes his team had taken care of Samuel earlier, avoiding the offseason drama altogether. Samuel reported to the team's mandatory minicamp earlier this month but didn't participate in the on-field work. "Hindsight is 20-20, right?" tight end George Kittle said this week on the

Two massive games. Two double-digit 4th quarter leads. Two heart-breaking losses. You can stop right there and fans of the San Francisco 49ers know exactly what you're talking about. Painfully, the franchise that once referred to itself as "Camelot," and became the first NFL team to win five Super Bowls, has experienced some difficult losses. There were three consecutive heartbreaking losses in the Jim Harbaugh days. And now Kyle Shanahan's 49ers have lost two big games, Super Bowl LIV in February 2020, and the NFC Championship Game earlier this year. And we're not even discussing the dark years when the team struggled under the likes of Dennis Erickson, Mike Nolan, Jim Tomsula, and Chip Kelly. Those names make me want to throw up. Whether it's that

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle joined the Bussin' with the Boys podcast this week, joined by Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Both are in Tennessee for Kittle's Tight End University. Allen is among several quarterbacks on hand to throw footballs to the large contingent of tight ends. During the lengthy conversation on the Barstool Sports podcast, the topic of fanbases came up. Allen has played in front of Bills Mafia his entire career, while Kittle has been among The Faithful. The two groups create very different atmospheres heading into game days, leading Kittle to reflect on his college playing days at

CBS analyst calls 49ers' situations with Deebo Samuel and Jimmy Garoppolo 'messy' and 'awkward'

In May, former offensive lineman turned broadcaster and analyst Ryan Harris made headlines stating that sources inside the San Francisco 49ers shared doubts about second-year quarterback Trey Lance. He also said that some expected Jimmy Garoppolo to start come Week 1. Harris rejoined CBS Sports HQ to share his thoughts on two big 49ers-related offseason storylines—Deebo Samuel and Garoppolo. Earlier this offseason, Samuel requested to be traded after watching several of his wide receiver peers cash in while the 49ers star waited for his own contract extension. San Francisco had hoped to trade Garoppolo in March. However, the quarterback
