NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed a report by NBC Sports Bay Area last night that San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive lineman Solomon Thomas suffered an MCL sprain during Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rapoport states that Thomas' injury was actually a "low-grade" MCL sprain and no surgery is necessary for it to heal properly. However, Thomas is expected to miss some time as he recovers.
#49ers first round DE Solomon Thomas has a low-grade MCL sprain, source said following his MRI. No surgery. He'll miss limited time.
Thomas was one of two first-round picks by the 49ers in April. The other, linebacker Reuben Foster, was inactive against the Eagles due to a rib injury sustained during a Week 7 contest against the Dallas Cowboys.
This season, Thomas has 26 combined tackles, two sacks, and has started six games in eight appearances.
