Seahawks Sign a QB--and it’s not Kaepernick

With rumors that Colin Kaepernick would sign with the Seattle Seahawks after visiting them earlier in the month, the Seahawks have found their new backup quarterback--and it's not Kaepernick.

Kaepernick remains a free agent while other options such as Blaine Gabbert (Arizona Cardinals), Ryan Fitzpatrick (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), and now Austin Davis are signed with NFL teams. Davis, drafted by the Rams, has been a journeyman quarterback who most recently played for the Denver Broncos but has also spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns.

It seemed like the Seahawks were slated to sign Kaepernick; the Seahawks were the only team that actually brought him in for a team visit during the offseason. With OTAs now starting for NFL teams, it remains to be seen where Kaepernick will go at this point.

The San Francisco 49ers may have been eyeing wide receiver DK Metcalf with their third-round pick in 2019. That's what head coach Kyle Shanahan's friend and co-host of NBC's Pro Football Talk Live told Mike Florio this week. Unfortunately for Shanahan, the division-rival Seattle Seahawks drafted him just three slots above the 49ers' third-round selection. San Francisco went on to select wide receiver Jalen Hurd, who has yet to appear in an NFL game. "I feel pretty confident in saying that if DK Metcalf was there for that pick, that Kyle would have taken him," Simms told Florio. "I know -- Kyle may not like me saying this or whatever -- he really liked DK Metcalf.

Rich Eisen 'not ready to sleep' on the 49ers and their playoff chances

By David Bonilla

While many have given up on the San Francisco 49ers and the team's playoff chances, Rich Eisen hasn't. The host of The Rich Eisen Show feels Kyle Shanahan's squad still has a good shot at making a run during these final six games of the regular season and perhaps surprising some people. Eisen's hot take during his "4 Downs with Rich" segment saw the 49ers, not the 4-6 Minnesota Vikings or Detroit Lions, as a team that can sneak into postseason play as the seventh seed and make things uncomfortable for an opponent. "I am not done with them yet," said Eisen. "The 49ers are coming off their bye this week, Thanksgiving week. They're coming back, and they're taking on the Rams, who have a short week. "I don't know. The 49ers can come in there,

The San Francisco 49ers are currently scheduled to have a lot of their players hit free agency next offseason. A lot. Thirty-four players are scheduled to become either an unrestricted free agent or a restricted free agent, according to Spotrac.com. Seven more are scheduled to become exclusive-rights free agents. One of the team's biggest names scheduled to hit free agency is offensive tackle Trent Williams, who has played just nine games with the team. San Francisco traded for the seven-time Pro Bowl selection in April to replace the retiring Joe Staley. ESPN's Kevin Seifert
