49ers interested in Ravens FB Kyle Juszczyk

Mar 8, 2017 at 9:31 AM--

According to Tom Pelissero‏ of USA TODAY Sports, the San Francisco 49ers are among the teams showing interest in Baltimore Ravens FB Kyle Juszczyk.

The 49ers didn't have a fullback on the roster last season. Bruce Miller was the team's fullback the previous season and was trying to convert to a tight end in Chip Kelly's offense, but legal problems led the 49ers to release Miller a week prior to the start of the regular season.

Juszczyk, who turns 26 in April, was a fourth-round selection out of Harvard by Baltimore in the 2013 NFL Draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl last season and was a 2016 First-Team All-Pro.

Kyle Juszczyk once again ranked NFL's biggest outlier contract in 2020

Kyle Juszczyk is entering the final year of his four-year, $21 million deal. That is a lot of money for a fullback. Of course, few play-callers value the position as much as San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. Bill Barnwell of ESPN once again ranked the NFL's biggest outlier contracts in 2020, and for the fourth year in a row, Juszczyk's deal comes in at No. 1. The deal is a whopping 132 percent above the position average. That's a significant gap. "The gap between him and the rest of the pack has fallen after the (Derek) Watt and (C.J.) Ham contracts were signed, but there's still a huge space

Seahawks' Acquisition of Jamal Adams Isn't a Checkmate to Kyle Shanahan and 49ers

By Levin T. Black
Jul 27, 2020

The Seattle Seahawks' trade for safety Jamal Adams gives the San Francisco 49ers' division rival one of the players best suited to defend an offense that features running backs and tight ends in the passing game. The San Francisco 49ers have perhaps the league's top offensive mind in head coach Kyle Shanahan while the Seahawks have a defensive guru for a head coach in Pete Carroll. When the 49ers have the ball the two go toe-to-toe on play calls in a manner that can only be compared to a game of chess. Shanahan calls passing plays designed to get tight end George Kittle or one of the bevy of players who line up in the backfield open as much as any coach in the NFL. Just fewer than 50 percent of the 49ers' passing yards in 2019 went to a back or tight

Kyle Shanahan: Defense, run game made Jimmy Garoppolo's knee an afterthought; 49ers have unfinished business

By David Bonilla
Jul 27, 2020

Jimmy Garoppolo is entering the 2020 season with little or no concern about the ACL injury he suffered on September 23, 2018. There are other concerns, of course, like COVID-19 and the lack of an offseason's worth of practices, but his knee is not among them anymore. Garoppolo should still have one of the league's best defenses and a top rushing attack to support him. Those two things were key in last season's division championship, and Super Bowl run. Head coach Kyle Shanahan also pointed out that the defense and run game were crucial in Garoppolo's return from his injury, and helped take much of the pressure off the quarterback. "Our defense carried us at the beginning of the year," Shanahan told his friend, Chris Simms, on the
