Redskins will interview 49ers LB coach Jason Tarver for defensive coordinator

The Washington Redskins will interview San Francisco 49ers linebackers coach Jason Tarver for their defensive coordinator position, per The Washington Post. Tarver served as the Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator from 2012 through 2014.


Washington general manager Scot McCloughan worked with Tarver in San Francisco during the linebacker coach's first stint with the 49ers. Tarver returned to the 49ers under Jim Tomsula in 2015.

Jason Verrett enjoyed dipping his toes into the free-agency waters. The veteran cornerback ended up re-signing with the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year deal, but it wasn't due to a lack of interest from other teams. He opted to bet on himself again, as he did last offseason, and prove to skeptics that he can stay healthy while playing at a high level. It also feels good to stay with something familiar. Unless you stay off of social media, as Jimmy Garoppolo does, it's tough to escape all of the speculation surrounding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's future. Garoppolo remains the favorite to be the Week 1 starter. Beyond 2021, though, who knows? San Francisco recently traded away several valuable draft picks, including multiple first-rounders, to move up to the No. 3 spot for the opportunity to acquire a quarterback of the future. The team obviously sees a potential upgrade in at least one option between Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones. Five San Francisco 49ers players earned performance-based bonuses, per a report from NBC Sports Bay Area. They include linebackers Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw, and defensive backs Jason Verrett and Tarvarius Moore. One offensive lineman, Daniel Brunskill, also earned the additional pay. Alabama quarterback Mac Jones threw in front of NFL personnel today in Tuscaloosa. It was his second workout.
