"He did some things yesterday," Kelly said. "Obviously, he's in a non-contact jersey so he hasn't taken any hits or anything like that on his shoulder. I would just say it's still up -- I have no idea. He'll go through today, which is a padded practice, but he's still going to be in non-contact. It's really how much movement, how much range of motion does he have, and then the assessment of what the doctors and the trainers say after tomorrow. After Friday and Saturday's training sessions."
Kelly was asked if Hyde would practice in pads today given that he is in a blue non-contact jersey. "He should be," Kelly answered. "I haven't seen him come out yet, though, so we'll see. And I haven't talked to [Vice President Of Football Operations Jeff Ferguson] this morning about what the update is on him."
Later during the press conference, Kelly pointed out that Hyde was walking out onto the practice field with pads on. "Carlos has pads on," Kelly said while pointing to Hyde. "In case you guys...just updating you. Trying to stay on the same page. But there is still the blue jersey."
The injury occurred during the third quarter of the 49ers' October 16 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Mike Davis replaced Hyde while the 49ers' starting running back was on the sideline. The 49ers promoted RB DuJuan Harris from the practice squad for their October 23 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He rushed for 39 yards on 11 carries in that game.
Hyde has 429 yards on 109 carries and six touchdowns so far this season. He has averaged 3.9 yards per carry.
Update:
Following today's practice, Hyde was asked if he would play Sunday. "I don't know," he answered. "I really hope so."
Hyde also clarified that he has a sprained AC joint and that his shoulder remains sore.
