Kaepernick learned that he would become the new starter prior to heading to practice, the team's first following some time off after Thursday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals. "Excited about it," Kaepernick said. "Ready to go. Hope I can bring more to this team and try to get us a win this Sunday."
Kaepernick was asked about his weight and how he feels physically. He said he is 100-percent and feels ready to go physically. "My biggest thing is trying to focus on strength and making sure I'm physically ready to play," Kaepernick said. "Whether that means my weight's higher or lower, I don't think that's a huge deal."

The 49ers and Kaepernick have reportedly been working on a new two-year contract that, for San Francisco, will alleviate some of the concerns surrounding guarantees should the quarterback suffer a serious injury. For Kaepernick, it would reportedly give him the option to become a free agent following this season by making 2017 voidable. Kaepernick said that he and the 49ers were still in discussions.
"We have had conversations, really don't want to get into details about that," Kaepernick said. "But those conversations have gone on."
Kaepernick also said that he does not feel pressured to get a new deal done prior to playing on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. It will be his first start since November 1, 2015.
"It's a great opportunity to go out and win games," Kaepernick said. "That's ultimately what the goal is."
Kaepernick feels like he is a good fit for Chip Kelly's offense. "I think there's a lot of great things this offense does and allows the quarterback to do," he said. "Like I've said in the past, it's similar to things I've done in college and that makes me feel very comfortable in it."
