Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee stated today that the restructured contract for Colin Kaepernick is simply awaiting his signature. Kaepernick, along with many players on the team, has been out of town since Friday. Head coach Chip Kelly stated that the team would return to work on Tuesday.


Tuesday would be the first day that Kaepernick would have an opportunity to review the contract himself, which Barrows points out as something that he likes to do.


The new deal is believed to be a two-year one that would alleviate some of the 49ers' concerns regarding the risk of injury and salary commitment. Under the current contract, a serious injury would trigger a $14.5 million guarantee of Kaepernick's 2017 salary.

The new contract also reportedly allows Kaepernick to void the 2017 year, making him a free agent following this season and the start of the new league year. On Monday, Tom Pelissero of USA TODAY reported that the new contract is expected to add $1 million in playtime incentives this season and that Kaepernick's $125,000 per game roster bonus is expected to convert to guaranteed salary.
