The quest to get San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on the field apparently belongs only to the fans. According to Adam Shefter and Jim Trotter of ESPN, there has been no talk among the players or coaches to have Kaepernick replace starter Blaine Gabbert.

"There's not a whisper of getting Colin Kaepernick on the field," 49ers players told Trotter.


While the coaching staff continues to support Gabbert as the team's starter, fans who want to see what Kaepernick might bring to the table have been growing in number over the past few weeks. Gabbert has completed just 55.2-percent of his passes for 535 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and a passer rating of 68.6 – his lowest rating since first joining the 49ers.


Meanwhile, Kaepernick remains in the headlines due to his national anthem protest. He has even appeared on the cover of TIME magazine. Teammates and players around the league have joined his protest.

The 49ers' backup quarterback has been protesting what he calls "unjust" actions by this country by kneeling during the national anthem prior to games.
