Also included within the predictions was a Chip Kelly led revival for the San Francisco 49ers. "That doesn't mean a playoff appearance for the Niners this season," said Pelissero. "But considering the relative youth of the roster, offseason-long quarterback questions and the strength of the NFC West, wringing out eight or nine wins from this group would be impressive. Powerful Carlos Hyde, not Minnesota's Peterson, might have the best shot to lead the NFL in rushing if he can finally stay healthy."
Eight or nine wins is a bold prediction for a team that most of the media predicts will have a tough time achieving last season's win total. The 49ers may have upgraded their coaching staff this offseason, but their schedule remains one of the toughest in the league.
The 49ers open up the regular season on Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams at Levi's Stadium.
