"It's interesting because on paper, you would think Colin Kaepernick would be the easy de facto choice, but when you start thinking about the way that teams took Kaepernick out of the offense in terms of how they attacked the mesh point on that zone read after Harbaugh showed it the one year, the very next year, everyone came back and had a solution," said Zierlein. "Do if you start to make assumptions that defense are going to really try to stop Colin Kaepernick run first, pass second, well that really limits his effectiveness.
"I do think Blaine Gabbert is the better passer there and I think that's why some of the fantasy football gurus out there are assuming Gabbert is going to get the majority of the carries ... I mean a majority of the snaps. I'm going the other way. I think that Chip Kelly's offense can be so much better than the quarterback at times. Look what he did for Nick Foles. I think that with Colin Kaepernick, I think there's an understanding by Chip Kelly that, 'Hey, let's get this guy throwing some easy completion passes. Some easy misdirection play action type stuff that will give him some easier single reads – y'know, two read looks.'
"And I think one that that you cannot underestimate with Chip Kelly's offense is – I think he has a better understanding than many coordinators out there on how to put his quarterback in an advantageous position. So I think we'll see Colin Kaepernick who's the more talented of the two I think from a physical standpoint. I think you'll see him – I'm not going to say 'excel' – but I think he'll outplay Gabbert and I think he'll excel."
