LSU LB Deion Jones had private workouts with a number of NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, per Rand Getlin of NFL Network. Given that it was a private workout, it likely wasn't over the weekend at the team's headquarters in Santa Clara. The 49ers hosted a number of draft prospects for visits this past weekend.


During the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-1 and 222-pound Jones had a 40-time of 4.59 seconds, a vertical jump of 33 inches, and a broad jump of 120 inches. During his pro day, he improved on his 40-time and vertical jump, coming in at 4.38 seconds in the 40 and 35.5 inches on the jump.

Lance Zierlein of NFL Media, who compares Jones to Joe Mays, had the following to say in his scouting report:

Three-down linebacker prospect with outstanding athleticism and a willing, aggressive mindset for the position. Jones lacks the playing experience that most linebackers in this draft will have so he might need a year of tutelage on the NFL level to help him expedite his learning curve. Jones could be a fit at ILB for a 3-4 team or as an outside linebacker in a 4­-3. Jones' potential as a special teams cover man gives him a shot to get early playing time.

In 2015, Jones had 88 total tackles, 12.5 for a loss, five sacks, and two interceptions - one of which was returned for a touchdown.
