"I wouldn't say that door has been shut by any stretch," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke told CSN Bay Area last week. "But where it is, it's where it was when we left off. He's going to explore his options, and we're going to explore ours. We got a draft to go through. It would be later than sooner, in terms of the final decision that's made."
Boldin had stated that he would not mind returning to the 49ers, but would also like a chance to play for a contender. After all, he is entering what is likely the latter portion of his career. He has not garnered much attention during free agency, but has been keeping very busy with his charities.
Boldin, who will be 36 years old in October, had 69 receptions for 789 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. That was the fewest receiving yards he has had since 2004 with the Arizona Cardinals, which was his second year in the league. Of course, those numbers were still enough to lead the team in receiving. Boldin had surpassed 1,000 yards (1,062 in 2014 and 1,179 in 2013) in each of his previous two seasons with San Francisco.
Boldin ranks 17th all-time in receiving yards with 13,195 and is 12th all-time in receptions with 1,009. Other wide receivers on the San Francisco roster include Dres Anderson, Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton, Eric Rogers, Jerome Simpson, DeAndre Smelter, Torrey Smith, and DeAndrew White.
