The 49ers have 12 total selections, including the four compensatory selections that were awarded earlier this month. Their picks are bottom heavy, meaning the majority of their selections come during round four or later. San Francisco owns three selections in the first three rounds and nine in the final four with four selections in the sixth round alone. They own at least one selection in every round except the seventh.
The team's first selection comes seventh overall, which is prime real estate to pick up a top talent. With the Colin Kaepernick situation still somewhat unstable, the overwhelming majority of mock drafts have the 49ers selecting a quarterback with their top selection with Cal QB Jared Goff and North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz leading the projections.
It is also possible that the team will look to trade down and gain more ammunition within the top half of the draft. However, some within the media have even speculated that the team might look to move up in the first round, but that would be a very uncharacteristic move by general manager Trent Baalke.
Since January, the team has been looking at players at nearly every position.
