Ian Williams re-signs with the 49ers


The 49ers kept DT Ian Williams from reaching free agency. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at 1PM Pacific. Early Wednesday morning, San Francisco locked him up to a 5-year deal that will keep him with the team through the 2020 season. Seen by many as the 49ers' top free agent talent, Williams, who is just 26 years old, led the defensive line in tackles in 2015. He is considered to be one of the better nose tackles in the league and finished 2015 strong.

49ers sign QB Thad Lewis to a one-year deal

Not a splashy name, but it is a free agent signing. It was the 49ers' only one of the day. Lewis, who was with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, is reunited with head coach Chip Kelly. Over his NFL career, he has passed for 1,296 yards, five touchdowns, four interceptions, a completion percentage of 60.8, and a passer rating of 81.4.

Ted Larsen will visit with the 49ers

The 49ers' first reported visit was OL Ted Larson, who was with the Arizona Cardinals for the past two seasons. Larsen has starting experience at right guard for the Cardinals, an area that the 49ers could definitely use some help at. He has played in 72 games over his career, starting 30.


Broncos may be interested in Colin Kaepernick

The Denver Broncos lost their quarterback of the future, Brock Osweiler, to the Houston Texans on a 4-year, $72 million deal. The loss has left Denver scrambling for an answer at the position. One such answer may be a trade for 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, who the Broncos have expressed interest in. In February, Kaepernick's agents requested permission from the team to seek a trade. Another possibility for Denver might be former Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin. Regardless of what happens with Denver, it is appearing more and more unlikely that Kaepernick remains with the 49ers for the 2016 season.

Alex Boone signs with the Minnesota Vikings

The 49ers' weakest unit, their offensive line, got a little worse today. G Alex Boone signed with the Minnesota Vikings on a 4-year $26.8 million deal.

49ers, Raiders, Chiefs interested in CB Sean Smith


The three teams are all showing interest in CB Sean Smith with the Redskins also reportedly interested. Cornerback is a position of need on the 49ers defense. Once believed to be a two-team race between the 49ers and Oakland Raiders, the Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly making a strong push to being Smith back.

Doug Martin returns to the Buccaneers

The 49ers were one of the teams reportedly interested in Buccaneers RB Doug Martin. However, Tampa Bay was able to re-sign the 2015 rushing leader runner-up to a 5-year, $35.75 million deal.

49ers interested in C.J. Anderson

After their brief flirtation with Doug Martin, the 49ers are reportedly among the teams interested in Broncos restricted free agent RB C.J. Anderson.


Lance Dunbar will visit with 49ers

RB Lance Dunbar spent four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after being signed by them out of North Texas in 2012 as an undrafted free agent. Over his career, he has 391 rushing yards with a 4.6 yard-per-carry average. He also has 524 receiving yards on 52 receptions. Injuries have shortened his seasons over his career. He is coming off of a torn ACL and MCL in October.

49ers, Raiders interested in Marc Mariani

Marc Mariani was selected to the Pro Bowl during his rookie 2010 season. He was with Chicago over the past two seasons. As a receiver, he has had 27 catches for 324 yards. He has 4,246 return yards and three touchdowns as a returner, averaging 25 yards per return on kickoffs and 9.5 on punts. Two of his touchdowns came on punt returns.
