Mike Silver of Sports Illustrated believes otherwise and tweeted the following.
No one has officially reported this, so take it for what it is worth. McLorg has broken other 49ers news in the past, like the benching of QB Colin Kaepernick in favor of Blaine Gabbert, so there is no reason to not believe his sources. At worst, it shows that the 49ers have a genuine interest in making Jackson their next head coach.
Is McLorg correct or not? The Cleveland Browns may have something to say about that. We will likely find out soon. Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reported that no offer had been made yet, but that a new coach could be in place "fairly soon."
Jackson, who has been considered by many to be the front-runner for the team's head coaching vacancy, met with the 49ers for five hours in Cincinnati on Sunday before heading to an interview with the Browns. Maiocco has said that the interview between the 49ers and Jackson went "very well."
Jackson spent 2011 as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders before joining the Bengals as their secondary coach in 2012. He became the running backs coach in 2013 and then the offensive coordinator in 2014.
