Early Tuesday morning, there was a report that the Indianapolis Colts had reached out to Sean Payton's camp about their head coach job prior to the re-signing of Chuck Pagano to a contract extension. Payton, who is still under contract with the New Orleans Saints, has been allowed to have discussions with other teams. However, the Colts' prior interest was quickly debunked.

As for a likely landing spot for Payton, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport seems to believe that the landing spot for him will either be New Orleans or San Francisco.



Payton has been the head coach of the Saints since 2006 and won Super Bowl XLIV. He has a 93-61 record as a head coach, including the postseason.


The 49ers have also been in discussions with former Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan, scheduled an interview with Buffalo Bills assistant head coach and running backs coach Anthony Lynn, and requested to interview Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson.

The 49ers are making it easily known that they are after an offensive minded coach.
