There was a little bit of controversy earlier in the season when it was reported that San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick would not be allowed on the sidelines during a home game. Head coach Jim Tomsula later stated that the decision on players being allowed on the sidelines is completely up to the medical staff. If they feel that the player may be at risk on the sidelines, then he is not allowed to be there. However, players are often allowed to be on the field during pregame warmups.

During today's home game at Levi's Stadium against the St. Louis Rams, not only was Kaepernick on the field during the pregame, but he was shown on the sidelines during the game itself by the CBS broadcast.



Along with his head coach, Kaepernick's future with the team has been a big question mark as the 49ers season comes to a close. While the 49ers have said that he fits into the team's future plans, others have suggested that San Francisco might be willing to trade him.

Earlier this season, Kaepernick was benched for QB Blaine Gabbert before being placed on injured reserve with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
