While Bleacher Report's Jason Cole confirmed this report, NFL Network stated that no decision had been made yet regarding Tomsula's fate.
FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported that the 49ers would like to lure a "big fish," but many are leery about working with Baalke.
Earlier during their disastrous season, there was a report from Cole stating that the team was leaning toward keeping Tomsula as long as the team competed down the stretch. However, they have been unable to do so and a disgruntled fan base may have changed those plans.
There has been increasing pressure from the Niner Faithful to make a significant change. Fans even went as far as to pay for banners to be flown over two 49ers home games this season. Those banners expressed their disgust with team CEO Jed York. York has been unwilling to address the media or fans until the completion of the season.
A report today by Jason La Canfora stated that Tomsula's status in San Francisco was shaky with pressure mounting on ownership.
49ers coach Jim Tomsula is only completing his first season as a head coach, but pressure is mounting on ownership to make changes with fan distrust rising. Putting their horrible season on Tomsula, in the wake of an ugly falling out with former coach Jim Harbaugh a year ago, may not be fair, and the York family has long been a champion of Tomsula's, so there are some complicated dynamics to navigate as the season winds down.
Hired as the team's 19th head coach in franchise history, Tomsula has served in the position since being promoted on January 14th of 2015, following the dismissal of Jim Harbaugh after a 2014 season where San Francisco finished with an 8-8 record. Prior to that, Tomsula served as the team's defensive line coach since the 2007 season.
During the 2010 season, Tomsula served as the interim head coach for the Week 17 game against the Arizona Cardinals following the firing of head coach Mike Singletary.
During the 2015 season, Tomsula has led the 49ers to a disappointing 4-11 season with one final game to play today.
